A Rule Against Murder by Louise Penny

Chief Inspector Gamache Novel #4

This murder mystery is set outside of Three Pines for the most part-- although there are some brief soujourns to Three Pines and some of the usual suspects are transported to the isolated Manoir Bellechase. Yes, murder manages to find Gamache even while he is on vacation. A terrible storm leaves a dead body behind. Stop here if you don't want spoilers.

I liked that this one was set outside of Three Pines, although eventually Peter and Clara show up for his family reunion. And while we do gain more insight into Peter's back story--if it was supposed to make me like him more--it failed. Also I thought plot held some holes--especially when--all was revealed. I just didn't buy it. Too much left to the vagaries of happenstance and storm. Plus there was absolutely no reference to the chaotic ending of the previous book.  Hopefully, the next book returns to the norm.

Murder At Swann's Lake by Sally Spencer

A Chief Inspector Charlie Woodend Mystery #2

Swann's Lake is pleasure park and normally an ideal weekend retreat...when an ex-con turned nightclub owner is found brutally murdered, Charlie is sent to investigate...only to find himself with multiple questions and suspects...not the straight foward case that it first appeared. Another good mystery and I continue to enjoy this series.

A Murder of Quality by John Le Carre

The author's second novel and second George Smiley. Truth be told I wanted to enjoy it more than I did...

I am really glad that the next book will take Smiley back into the world of spies and espionage. And that it is one of his famous books "The Spy Who Came Out Of The Cold"--a book I have always wanted to read--but things must be done in order.

MoonShadow Murder by Rich Curtin

Manny Rivera Mystery #4

I am really enjoying this series of books. Intriguing mysteries, clean plain prose, beautiful setting, and an admirable Deputy Sheriff, Manny Rivera. Manny Rivera #5 here I come...

The Wager by David Grann

Subtitle: A Tale Of Shipwreck, Mutiny and Murder

Very good book. Reading time well spent. The true (at least according to the survivors) tale surrounding the shipwreck of The Wager, it makes for a very compelling read. I look forward to reading more from this author--although I am a little apprehensive as he is the author of "The Killers of the Flower Moon".

Due to a snafu at the airport I ended up reading almost an entire book, flight delay turned into unexpected reading time, so I needed another book once I got to my destination. I knew this book was on a Vignovic book shelf (not that he has read it yet) so I scooped it up and read it myself.

The Marlow Murder Club by Robert Thorogood

This book got dissed a little on Amazon and GoodReads but for what its worth--it is a light escape read--I found it perfect as a distraction from being stuck in an airport for a couple extra hours, waiting for thunderstorms to clear out of Florida. Will I read more--yes I most definitely will.
