To Die In June by Alan Parks

A Harry McCoy Thriller #6

Yet another stellar entry in this detective series and definitely reading time well spent.

However,

The author, who seemed to have started this series with a monthly theme (January, February, March, April, June...) with this book being published in 2023.

So I went in search of July--only to find nothing. All I could tell from a google search was that the author seemed to have abandoned Harry and started a new series of books--the first be titled Gunner, which of course I will read. It doesn't get published until July. Do not read more if you like zero spoilers!

While I am totally dismayed at this turn of events and really, really, really, hope that this is not the last we read of Harry McCoy--Mr. Parks has really written Harry into somewhat of a dead end. Harry was not at his best to begin with but by the end of this outing-Harry is tottering in the direction of recently murdered father's footsteps. Really dark--maybe the author needed a moment--figure out how to pull Harry back up by his boot straps. Hope so!

Reading Challenge: Once Around the Categories (June, Book of the Month Club)

June by Miranda Beverly-Whittemore

This book was not my usual type of read, it mostly felt like I was reading a Hallmark movie. I like the part set in the past more than I liked "real time" parts. By the time it got to the overly saccharine cliche "holiday get together" at the end I was mostly skimming. I really need to do myself a favor and stop reading romance novels-- but if it is your jam then I imagine one would like this just fine.

June's Troubles by A.E. Howe

2023

2023 has turned out to be a lot. In times of stress I read a lot BUT I don't retain a lot...it has been that kind of a year to put it mildly.

A bit of a twist as this mystery doesn't take place in Adams County. Larry and his dad, with girlfriends in tow go on "vacation" on the Florida coast, but of course murder follows along.

Three Junes by Julia Glass

2021

I had collected this book awhile back for my Book of the Month Club category. This is one of the best fiction books I have read in 2021 so far. A story that reaches across generations and continents through the viewpoint of multiple characters, it also slides back and forth through time, revealing unexpected links between the characters. It is very well done and well worth the reading time.

June

Welcome to Book of the Month Club where my goal is to read a book with that particular month in the title for as long as the books hold out. I have separated the titles out into each month as it is cleaner that way.

Goodnight June by Sarah Jio

2022

This is the second of Ms. Jio's books that I have read and I am likely to read more as her titles seem easy to worm into my existing categories. For the record, I figured out the big secret on page 186. Goodnight Moon a favorite of my child and the children to who I have been a Nanny. Will likely have to do a little more digging into the actual history of MWB and the writing of GM. It was a quick tear jerking read but.. A little too much name dropping, plus it was a like reading a Hallmark movie. Continues the theme--I need a man to fix me. Gag me.
